Documentary Synopsis
L’heure Zulu (universal time) is a multifaceted look at the New World seen through the eyes of Derrick de Kerchove, Director of the McLuhan Program at the University of Toronto. An emotional counterpoint is provided by former broadcaster Georges-Alexandre Gagnon who argues for getting closer to humanity, living on the shores of Belize without the nervous distractions. After electronic and written exchanges and debates on the merits of new technology, these two opposites finally come to meet atop a Mayan pyramid with a satellite dish planted close by. Throughout it all, the ghost of Marshall McLuhan looks on.

Available from the National Film Board of Canada in English and French versions.
